Abstract: | In today's modern life, when technology gradually becomes popular with everyone, social networks are also gradually dominating people's lives. Social networks become a place for people to share statuses, update daily activities happening around them, follow the latest news, connect with friends or chat online, etc. Besides the benefit that social networks bring, it also causes negative effects. Facebook or Twitter are taking us away from the real world, distracting us from life, and even a place for people to scramble for "like" buttons. Not only that, but it can also increase the risk of depression, because people often have negative emotions when regularly using social networks, according to recent studies. Even when separated from their phones, some feel lonely, empty, and lost. This shows that people are becoming dependent on social networks and leading to many psychological diseases, especially among young people between the ages of 16 and 30, including FOMO syndrome. FOMO (or Fear of Missing Out), also known as fear of missing out, is the psychological effect of feeling anxious and insecure when standing out of the crowd or missing out on interesting experiences. which they cannot have right now. From that, it can be inferred that FOMO syndrome when using social networks refers to users feeling restless and insecure when they do not use social networks for a period of time to update news or information about friends and relatives. At that time, this syndrome also causes many negative effects similar to addiction to using phones or social networks. Therefore, this study aims to find out the factors that cause the formation of FOMO when using social networks in young people, thereby proposing improvements in psychological and health issues by improving social media and the quality of life for today's youth. |
