Impact of the EU – Viet nam free trade agreement (EVFTA)) on Vietnam’s vegetable exports

Abstract

Research on “Impact of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) on Vietnam's vegetable exports" aims to assess the impact of the EVFTA on the one-way flow of trade in goods between Vietnam exporting and importing Europe in the vegetable industry. First, the author review some related studies, identify research gaps and new points of the subject. Overview of some theories related to impact assessment statics of FTAs such as trade creation and trade diversion. From there, the base on the advantages and limitations to choose the appropriate model for the research topic. The research method combines quantitative and qualitative research, in addition to using the theory of RCA index to analyze the comparative advantage of vegetables and fruits Vietnam compared to other countries. Quantitative analysis simulates local equilibrium model (SMART) with the estimated result when the scenario of complete tax abatement comes into effect the export value of Vietnam's vegetable industry to Europe is expected to increase 1.181,569 thousand USD. Qualitative research includes collect and synthesize information and research documents on the status of Vietnam's participation in EVFTA From there, we can make an objective assessment of the impact of EVFTA on trade Vietnam. Through SMART model results and analysis of opportunities – threats. The study gives some implications to promote the growth of export turnover of vegetables and fruits of Vietnam to the EU in accordance with the future context.
